Auto completion does not work like in Windows. It works like this:

[1] Type Ctrl-T (say you want to use command Convert).
[2] The focus is now in the element name field. Type first letter of the 
element name of interest.
[3] *Press the space bar*. This will complement the element name when 
possible.
[4] If you are done, press Enter otherwise type more letters, space bar, 
more letters, space bar, etc.
