XML MSWord documents (i.e. .xml files generated by Word 2003) are
conforming to the WordML schema:

---
<w:wordDocument
xmlns:w="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word/2003/wordml";>
---

They can be opened in XXE without doing any special effort. Of course
you'll just have a tree view, not a styled one.

WordML is a *very low-level* markup, similar to RTF but with an XML
syntax. Therefore I don't see how this low-level markup, heavily
presentation oriented, can be automatically and decently converted to a
structured XML application such as DocBook.

If persons have acceptable solutions or have tried products such as
http://www.docsoft.com/w2xmlv2.htm, we are interested in having their
feedback.
