No, unless attribute xml:space="preserve" is set for an element, an 
application is allowed to do whatever it wants with white space. In our 
opinion, XXE already does a pretty good job at stripping ignoreable 
whitespace.

Such options already exist. See the Options dialog box, Save tab.
