Hello!
My personal opinion is that you should embed xxe in a more complete
authoring workshop (as it is under Windows), say using java tools, as
xxe is easily embedable within java.
I made so under Linux, but it is yet under construction. There are
several tools in the open software world that are MS-like, but ama not
so well integrated.
In counter part, MS does not have all of a complete set of tools alone,
example for multilinguage (for which there is Borges in the docbook
world, and Borges could work with xxe) or version controls, not saying
about all the non standards and proprietary formats that you could not
get automated. Even if they use XML, which seems open, their dtd will
remain proprietary, which is finally not a revolution, ama just
oportunism...
So, I use xxe with cvs / tkcvs (user interface), dia, xfig, gimp,
staroffice / openoffice for drawing & presentation, and Norman Walsh's
xsl-stylesheet, saxon & fop for publication (java tools), along with a
file system tree and some script shell (but it could be better to use
makefile).
As I'm first writing in french, I did not find any grammar checker (even
for english & xxe/docbook).
You could use xxe for articles or books, but I think docbook is not for
stand alone authoring, but for larges standardized documents (ex. KDE
help or Sun Solaris doc), multi user, eventually multi languages work,
and you have to design a business process for using it.
Hope this helps
Michel:-)
