By default, XXE wraps words for all paragraphs, unless: * Element has attribute xml:space="preserve". * You use a CSS style sheet specifying "white-space:pre;" or "white-space:nowrap;" for a rule matching the element. First question: do you see a tree view or a styled view (something like a page displayed by a browser) when you open your document ? If you see a tree view, what you describe could be caused by an xml:space="preserve" added to the root element. If you see a styled view, my second question is: does the <?xml-stylesheet?> PI which associates an XSL style sheet with your document specify type="text/xsl"? If this is not the case, it could be mistaken for a CSS style sheet. Use Options|Options, Open tab and check "Ignore <?xml-stylesheet?>" and reopen your document to see if this improve things. (But in such case, you should have had lots of error messages.) But all these are guesses, you'll need to send me your document if you want a really accurate diagnostic. Please do so today because I'll be in vacations for the next 15 days and nobody will answer questions sent to this mailing list for the next 15 days.
