Right-clicking on a element does not select it. First select the element by either putting the caret inside it or by selecting it explicitly, then right click anywhere in the window to popup the Edit menu. This being said, your are right, but, for me, the bad position of the menu is a Java bug. I'll try to find a workaround for this.
