Ahah! I think I figured it out well enough to get going. I brought up
both the sample .xxe template and the docbook template for reference in the
editor and did some copy/paste with updates to the appropriate data fields,
saved it into my new subdirectory for the dtds, then added my catalog
entries (originally in flat-text catalog format) into the catalog xml file,
adjusted pointers everywhere, and got the application running.
I appreciate the new catalog-based support--now the documents I author
with XXE2 are truly interchangeable with other editors and applications.
