Version *2*.8p1? This version is several *years* old. Current version is
4.1.

Click inside the element to select it, then use the Attributes tool to
specify a value for the proper attribute (e.g. linkend for a link).

Please take the time to read this tutorial (everything you'll learn
there applies to any document type):
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/user/tutorial_basics.html

(It is also strongly recommended to read
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/user/tutorial_modular_document.html
and
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/user/being_productive.html)

XMLmind XML Editor is not intuitive to use. If you don't read the
tutorial, I'm afraid that you'll simply not be able to use our editor.
