PS: I now was able to set up xxe V4.0.0 such that I can edit my
dtd-documents containing MathML. I just had to follow section D. in your
MathML manual. 

You seem to use a schema (xsd/rng/rnc) to validate the mathml and not a dtd.
I hope this has no negative side effect?
