Sorry because this is not very intuitive. If you want to demote several paragraphs, explicitly select the first one , just the *first* *one* (let's call it the demote point), the paragraphs (and/or sections) following the demote point will automatically be moved to the newly created section. This is documented here: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/docbook/docbook_menu.html#docbook_convert_menu (This applies to DocBook 4 as well as to DocBook 5).
