I was able to reproduce the problem by copying the image to itself.
(In all other cases, dropping an image + copy works fine.)

Of course, XMLmind XML Editor should not allow this. This bug will be 
fixed in next release[*]. Thank you very much for taking the time to 
report the problem.

Meanwhile, as a workaround, please make sure to click on radio button 
"Reference as" when the source file and the destination file of the 
image are the same.

\\server\icons\foo.gif to Z:\icons\foo.gif when "\\server\" is connected
