Please get an evaluation key that will transform your copy of Personal Edition to an Evaluation Edition (functionally identical to Profession Edition) during one week. This takes 5 minutes: see http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/evaluate.html > 1. I understand that the XXE professional version provides a 'Convert > Document' sub-menu that allows conversion of DocBook files to PDF and > html. Is this conversion in WYSIWYG? The converted PDF and HTML files do *not* look like what you see on screen. * In the case of HTML, the DocBook document is directly converted to HTML by the means of an XSLT style sheet. You may generate single page or multi-page HTML. * In the case of PDF, the DocBook document is first converted to XSL-FO by the means of an XSLT style sheet. Then the XSL-FOs are rendered as PDF by the means of an XSL-FO processor such as FOP or RenderX XEP. All this machinery is transparent for the user. The only thing you need to do is to download and install one of these 3 XSL-FO processor add-ons: * Apache FOP 0.20.5 * Apache FOP 0.93 * RenderX XEP (not self contained, requires having RenderX XEP, a high quality commercial product, installed on your computer, at least the first time the add-on is used). I would recommend using FOP 0.93. In order to do that, simply use menu item "Options|Install Add-ons", select the add-on called "Apache FOP 1.x XSL-FO processor plug-in", click OK and restart XMLmind XML Editor Evaluation Edition as instructed. > Is the PDF or html conversion in > readable format that can then be printed? The generated PDF or HTML files are conforming to the standards. You can open and print them in all the applications that support these formats. > 2. Can an entire DocBook book, including all referenced chapters and > sections, be printed with one command? If so, how? Yes. Open your master document (i.e. the book referencing all the chapters) and use "Convert Document | Print PostScript". Specify the name of a *PostScript* printer and click OK. All this is documented in http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/docbook/docbook_menu.html#docbook_convert_menu --> Alternatively, using File|Print works fine on *any* printer. But this menu item will print what you see on screen (with slight adaptations because XXE knows that you are printing). That is, "File|Menu" gives you the kind of printout you'll find in Web browsers (In my opinion, better than Web browsers).
