Real-time spell-checking is a task, therefore it consumes resources. Real-time indication of spelling mistakes also snags the user's attention when he or she is presumably concentrating on trying to get content into an app.
My personal preference is to bang the content in, hoping for the best, then spell-check every now and as a separate activity. N
