Hi Hussein,

Thank you for taking some time to respond to my inquiry and the comments
regarding the DITA-OT. . Please, feel free to comment on the
usability/consumabilty of DITA-OT...again good, bad or really bad. I won't
be offended by the comments:-)

I want to verify that the issues that you raised in defect 1530443 have
all been addressed. From looking at the Java code in the current release
it looks like schema validation is still on by default and lexical handling
of the entities were not addressed. Is this correct? If so, I'll take
this up with Don and Robert. Are there other issues have yet to be
addressed or require you to modify the Java classes in the Toolkit.

I also want to understand a bit more how your clients are using XMLMind? In
your other note the your mention a jar file as well as access via a URL
using WebStart? Would you like having the option of having Toolkit
provided as one jar file containing the Java binaries, XSL, DTD, Schemas
and Ant scripts?

What are XXE process commands? You mentioned some issues with the XSL
stylesheets? Can you elaborate a bit more? Robert can help explain why
things are done in a certain way.

I'll discuss the issues that you raise with Don and Robert and map out a
plan how we can best address them. I also want to make sure that we have a
clear list of bugs that still remain in the toolkit and the issues that t
would be consider architectural issues and open up the proper feature
requests. I will be fixing the issues that you mentioned regarding the
DITA Schemas to Don in DITA 1.1.

I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with all the question. We are very
grateful that you have spent time and energy adding support for DITA in
XMLMind. I want to make sure we have a clear understanding of the issues.
How XMLMind is using DITA-OT. How it's different from the other XML formats
that you support. How we can make it easier for XMLMind to consume the
Toolkit without have to recompile the Java classes.

I await your response with great anticipation.

Kind regards,
Eric

Thank you very much for taking the time to ask!

[1] XMLmind XML Editor is supposed to run on any machine, even when the
Java[tm] runtime installed on it is pretty dusty. That's why we do not
intend to rely on Java[tm] 1.5+ anytime soon.

[2] Our support for DITA is delivered as an *add-on* of XMLmind XML Editor.

If your future DITA OT only works on Java[tm] 1.5, this simply means
that a user having installed our DITA add-on (including a minimal copy
of your DITA OT) really needs to run XXE using Java[tm] 1.5. Not a big
problem.

In a nutshell, feel free to do whatever you want.
