I now remember that JEuclid, when used in the context of FOP (even more when the MathML markup is embedded in the XML file) uses font families and font sizes based on the ones used by FOP. In the case of FOP, font families and font sizes are specified in its XSL-FO input[*]. > > My reason for asking is that we currently have a docbook toolchain based > on xslt + fop + JEuclid which produces good screen and print pdf output. > I got comments that the XXE pdf output does not look as good on screen, > although print is fine (but different). You are the first customer to tell us this. For us, this is an important feedback. (What's the point of authoring documents in DocBook or DITA, if one ends up with ugly deliverables?) We would be glad if you could elaborate on this. > Apparently our toolchain (which > uses default fonts) outputs a different math font than the xxe > toolchain. Anyway, I think we can live with the difference. > Please look at the attached PDF file. The MathML equations have been authored using XXE+its MathML add-on. The PDF has been created from within XXE (that's important, because the FOP bundled with XXE is different from the one downloaded from Apache's site) using FOP 0.95+JEuclid 3.1.8_01. While we are still far from TeX's quality, we find this result more than acceptable. --- [*] XXE can be used to map nicer fonts to FOP's logical fonts (sans-serif, serif, etc). This is very easy to do. Simply use "Options|Preferences", "Add-on|FOP" section for that. For example, start by simply clicking "Use Windows Standard Fonts". May be you should give a try. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
