Hussein, Wow, your XSL Utility does a BRILLIANT job with conversion to PDF -- chunked, table of contents with page numbers. You're right, I'm flabbergasted!
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I had been trying to change from DocBook 4.5 to 5.0 so as to remove the DocType reference to Oasis' DTD file, and I had tried Saxon's converter without success, etc. In fact I'm still stuck on v5 -- I get a lot of validation errors via this utility, but I'll keep working at it -- and this is important to me because I'm going to need to figure out how to style the document and break the dependency on the .dtd file at Oasis. And yes, I'm using the personal edition -- mainly because I'm not sure yet how I'll do my writing. This is an investigation beyond Word, FrameMaker, LaTeX, etc. Certianly if XML and XMLmind turn out to be the sliced bread of this decade then I'll jump on board and purchase the professional edition, but I only just got started and for the past few days I've just been poking around. I'm extremely happy with what I see so far. Thanks again! -Jazing On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 1:56 PM, Hussein Shafie <[email protected]> wrote: > You seem to be using: > > * XXE Personal Edition to create and edit your DocBook documents. > > * The Render XEP command-line tool to convert your DocBook documents to > PDF. > > * Our XMLmind XSL-FO Converter (XFC) command-line tool to convert your > DocBook documents to RTF. > > > > Now some answers to your questions: > > * Given the fact that you author DocBook v4.5 documents, these documents > must really, really have a <!DOCTYPE>. > > Otherwise, simple characters entities such as would not be > defined and would cause any XML tool to report a parse error. > > * XEP and XFC are 100% correct when they try to download > http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.5/docbookx.dtd.
