As of V. 4.8, XXE is now automatically checking for updates. While I agree that
in principle this is a useful feature, XXE and our company's firewall don't
play nicely with each other, leaving XXE with "connection timed out" each time
it tries to perform the check.

This is why in my case (several installations of XXE) I prefer to disable the
automatic check for updates and make sure myself that we are staying up to
date. I know I can disable the check interactively via "Help | Check for
Updates" and unchecking (sorry for the pun) of "Automatically check for
updates".

But the documentation for XXE V. 4.8 still lacks info on how to do this using
preference properties, either on the command-line or in a
preferences.properties file, as explained at
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/command_line_usage.html

(Obviously, with that function residing in the Help menu, its preference
property is not described at the page "Preferences dialog box" where seemingly
all of the other preference properties are described:
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/com.xmlmind.guiutil.PreferencesEditorDialog.html
 )

By trial and error I discovered that probably I just need to set the property

autoCheckForUpdates=false

while the value of autoCheckForUpdates.date (if present) is ignored then.

Can you confirm that this is correct?

Best,

  Yves
