Thanks a lot for your answers and links.  I'll try .. maybe the best way is
to have the author of the doc to rewrite it in xml  ;)

We never, ever, managed to obtain an evaluation license for xDoc:

Things seem to have changed after the purchase of CambridgeDocs by EMC².
