Thank you very much for your help, Hussein.

While I had already noticed the possibility of assigning the return value of 
the called macro to a variable and to examine it using XPath, I was not sure if 
this was the preferred (or only) way to do case distinctions based on return 
values in XXE's macros. Now I agree that this method is quite elegant.
