It seems that your JPEG image is in the CMYK colorspace. This is confirmed by ImageMagick for example. Unfortunately Java imaging libraries do not support such JPEG images.
A possible workaround is to use "File|Save As", for example using The Gimp to save a copy in the RGB colorspace (which is the colorspace used by default by The Gimp; that is, default save options are OK).
