I know I can quickly open an external editor, but especially in
tables it would be handy to be able to make an extended selection
and operate on it in XML Mind
Esc l = Converts selected text to lower case. If no text is selected,
operates on word containing caret.
Esc u = Similar but converts selected text to upper case.
Esc c = Similar but changes the first letter of all words found in
selected text to upper case.
See Quick Reference Card:

("Esc l" means press and release key ESCAPE, then press and release key
L. I mean, ESCAPE is *not* a modifier key such Ctrl, Alt, etc.)
* from the Helps, I'd hope that ctrl + shift + home/end would select
the text content of table cells, but it doesn't seem to; and the
shortcuts I have found seem to select a whole row, not just a
single cell/entry.
There is no such keyboard shortcut. I would recommend to record a macro
to increase your productivity in similar use cases.

If you do this very often, then you may want to bind the recorded macro
to a keyboard shortcut and then save the resulting binding for use in
subsequent editing sessions
