Let's suppose you are editing a DITA topic (but the same procedure
applies to other document types; simply replace menu "Topic" by menu
"DocBook" or menu "XHTML").
The "Topic|Paste As" submenu has indeed a "Paste from Word" item. See
"Paste from Word" in

However there is *no* similar "Paste from Excel" item.
If you want to paste spreadsheet cells copied from Excel (or probably
from any other spreadsheet application):
--> Please select "Topic|Paste As|row" if the caret is inside a table (a
<table>, not a <simpletable>).
--> Please select "Topic|Paste As|table" if the caret is outside a table.
