I am currently using a HiDPI (so called "retina") screen on my laptop

XXE does not take into account this high resolution screen,

so the interface elements (menus icons, etc.) look really tiny on screen and
are barely usable. This happens both for local and applet versions.

Do you know of any parameter that would solve the issue?

I'm sorry but the answer is no.

We currently have no idea about how a Java/Swing application like XXE could support HiDPI screens on Linux (and also, unfortunately for our sales, also on Windows).

FYI, on the Mac, it seems to ``just work''. Of course, the icons which are automatically enlarged by the Java runtime, look ugly/blurry on Retina Macs.
