today i installed the actual version of java.
After that, they recommended strongly, i should de-install all previous
java versions. i did it.
Please see attached files.
Later i wanted to edit an xml file with XMLMind editor, which would not
start and showed a dialog
that ... *only java 1.6.0 to 1.7.0 range* ... would work.
Notice the warning displayed by the Java uninstall dialog box:
---
Warning: uninstalling out-of-date versions of Java may cause older Java
application to no longer run.

Unfortunately, this is what happened.
I suppose that you have installed the distribution whose filename ends with:
-setup-nojvm.exe
which leverages the Java runtime installed on the computer.
I'm saying this because the distribution whose filename ends with:
-setup.exe
has a *private* Java runtime and, in such case, XMLmind XML Editor is
supposed to work no matter you have Java installed on your computer or
not and no matter the version of Java installed on your computer. I
mean, in principle (not 100% sure), it just works.
Until today i worked with the original XMLMind editor purchased from
your company.
The previous XMLMind version i could not run. I don't know how to
find/retrieve the licence.
Now i must update our www.AAA.BBB site, but i can not stay on outdated
java versions.
What shall i do to get working at least that XMLMind version after the
original one achieved from your company? And what about the new versions
of java. They recommend only the newest, and these we would use to be
safe against viruses, browsing dangers, etc.
DISCLAIMER: You attempt to use a relatively old version of XMLmind XML
Editor (at best v5.8.1, released on December 12, 2013) with a very
recent version of Java. This old version of XMLmind XML Editor has not
been tested against Java 8. Therefore you *may* experience problems.
This being said, 3 possible solutions to your problem:
1) Upgrade to latest version of XMLmind XML Editor. Safest, easiest,
solution and the only solution officially supported by us.
OR
2) <XXE_install_dir>/bin/xxe.exe (use Windows facilities to locate file
"xxe.exe"), the executable file you double-click on to start XMLmind XML
Editor does not know about Java 8 and hence, won't run. Please replace
the old xxe.exe by the following new one, which supports Java 8:
---
http://XXX/YYY/ZZZ/xxe.exe
(121344bytes, Tue Feb 03 09:49:20 CET 2015)
---
IMPORTANT: Please keep a copy of old xxe.exe in case new one does not work.
However a) you anti-virus/anti-Spam software may block the download of a
.exe file b) replacing xxe.exe may require you to have administrator
rights on your machine.
OR
3) Uninstall the Java 8 runtime you have installed and install latest
Java 7 runtime.
Latest Java 7 (7u75; released on 1/20/15) is as up-to-date as latest
Java 8 (8u31; released on 1/20/15).
However a) may be you need latest Java 8 for other Java
applications/applets b) doing this may not be that easy if you are not a
little techie.
Oracle download site:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html
You may download and install jre-7u75-windows-i586.exe
