Yes, MathML is rendered WYSIWYG in the styled view of a DITA topic.
See for example attached screenshot of a stock, out of the box, XXE 6.2
displaying <XXE_install_dir>/demo/dita-sample/readme.dita.
At this point, all I see in
the styled view is a <ns:math> placeholder.
This generally means that the MathML add-on has not been installed (or
may be XXE picks a customization of yours which somewhat prevents this
add-on from working).
This is easy to check. If "Options|Install Add-ons" lists the MathML
add-on, then it's something in your working environment which gets in
the way.
I can see the full equation in the unstyled view.
MathML is rendered as any other XML element, that is, as an XML node
tree, in the tree view of a DITA topic.
