I've been using XMLmind for DocBook editing for many years, but never

The MacOS menu doesn't show keyboard shortcuts for those commands. Do
they have shortcuts? This is an extremely useful command (when
selecting rows in a table, for example).

Yes, indeed.

I think I can define a custom keyboard shortcut for this, but I'm
surprised I'd need to. Are there any Mac users who know the keyboard
command for this?

Whatever the platform, the keyboard shortcut for "Extend selection to preceding sibling" is (and has always been, if my memory serves me well) "Esc Left". That is, press and release key "Escape", then press key "Left Arrow".

The keyboard shortcut for "Extend selection to following sibling" is "Esc Right".

Unlike "Cmd", "Ctrl", "Alt" keyboard shortcuts, these "Esc" keyboard shortcuts cannot be displayed next their corresponding menu items. (They are displayed in the "balloon help" of their corresponding toolbar buttons though.)

If you want to learn about these "hidden" keyboard shortcuts:

1) Use this quick reference card: http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/quickrefcard/quickrefcard-Mac-Letter.pdf

OR

2) Check feature "Enable the Developer Tools" (Options|Preferences, General|Features; see http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/generalOptions.html#featuresOptions). Restart XMLmind XML Editor and then select newly added menu item "Help|Mouse and Key Bindings" (see http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/helpMenu.html).
