I'm using Unicode arrows like ⭨  or Unicode 2B68 in Docbook <programlisting> elements.

Using xxe's  Options --> Preferences --> View »"monospace" font family« the default »Monospaced« font setting does show these arrows in Xxe correctly on my Linux box. However the font being used is apparently no fixed font: Glyph widths vary making it unusable for program listings (At least for me).

Using »DejaVu sans mono« uses fixed glyph widths as expected but does not display the aforementioned arrows in Xxe, just their bounding boxes. »Regular« characters on contrary still show up correctly.  I've tried choosing various other fonts from the dropdown menu to no avail.

The generated HTML obviously still renders correctly. »Inspection« in Google Chrome shows »Noto Sans Mono« being used. The rendering in Chrome is correct both with respect to fixed glyph width and  visibility. However choosing the exact same »Noto Sans Mono« from Xxe's dropdown list renders these Unicode arrows completely invisible: Even their bounding boxes don't show up.

A Stackoverflow article claims Google Chrome receives its Monospace default font from the operating system its running in.
