May I ask you why not using a true servlet engine like Tomcat and make
use of a simple XML-RPC servlet ?

I do that an migrating from 2.0 to 3.0 has been very simple.

1. The reason is that Tomcat is fat. We don't want to include a whole
servlet engine when what is already present does exactly what we
   need.

2. You're misunderstanding the problem. Even if I use XmlRpcServlet
(and believe me, I have tried doing this) I still need to pass in a
Class for a mapping, whereas I only have an Object.
