Is there a way I can retrieve the "raw" server response in order to
debug this further? The server I'm communicating with is HTTPS so
packet sniffers aren't too helpful.
Use Wireshark, Tcpmon, or a similar tool.

Like I said, the communication is over HTTPS. All I see in Wireshark is

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

&7"ofP7Y
8J!

etc...

If you do know of a way to see the actual response of an encrypted
connection, I'm all ears ;)

I have always wished for my computer to be as easy to use as my

how to use my telephone.

You might try WebScarab which allows you to intercept the request and the response.
