yes, in my opinion, a host name is suitable, if you use a IP address, some
CAs(for example, verisign) will not accept your CSR. So please  use a host
name, for which the certificate is issued.

As I wrote in a previous mail, I am unsure, whether an IP address works. 
AFAIK, you are supposed to use a host name, for which the certificate is 
issued.
