--build= x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
--host= arm-linux-gnueabi
It seems to me space after '=' is part of original command, i.e. space
is not pasted by mistake in email.

$ ./configure --build= x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu --host=
arm-linux-gnueabi - ...
[SNIP]

configure:2727: result: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
