Hi,

xmpp4r-simple is a separate project.  They are hosted at Google Code:

http://code.google.com/p/xmpp4r-simple/

gem server reports:
xmpp4r-simple 0.8.7 [rdoc] [www] - depends on rake, rcov, xmpp4r.A  
simplified Jabber client library.

I think you need to contact that project to ask about removing the  
dependency.
