It's using xalloc/xfree where applicable.

The call to malloc/free that you see is restricted to stub.c which is not 
actually part of the server binary.  It is a stub which is exec'd 
(/usr/X11/bin/X) and does the correct translation/handoff of argv and sockets 
over Mach-O IPC to XQuartz which is/was started via launchd or LaunchServices 
on OSX.
