This comes from some dubious behavior in xkeyboard-config. It creates a symlink to xkbcomp in the xkb base directory unless you pass a --disable-xkbcomp-symlink or something like that. Amey, just build xkbcomp with --prefix=/opt/mpx and make sure it uses a base path of /opt/mpx/share/X11/xkb so it will pick up your config files.
