Isn't there a --disbale-nls option? There is one in AM_GNU_GETTEXT http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/FAQ.html Take a look at the package's configure.in/ac. Does it invoke AM_GNU_GETTEXT? If no: The gettext maintainers take no responsibilities for lookalikes named CY_GNU_GETTEXT, AM_GLIB_GNU_GETTEXT, AM_GNOME_GETTEXT and similar, or for homebrewn autoconf checks.
