The benefit I was thinking of was being able to ship the server under a single license, with parts of the server being dual licensed. This would allow inclusion of GPL code without issue. However, maybe it's not a problem to ship an xserver with different parts under different licenses. Debian packaging allows for a package to have multiple upstream licenses for different files.
