So, along the way, we discovered an ugly problem with setuid X servers -- they can't write to the regular compiled directory, so they use /tmp. With a predictable name.
In any case, I haven't made that any worse... v2 changes: * Add a configure option to disable caching for people who never want it. * don't try to cache files in /tmp.
