For the open source drivers there should be a different way to do so, try
running this before starting X:

if [ -f /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch]; then
  echo DIS > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
  echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
fi
