That's right, but the position in wl_output has limited sense for some applications (basically, an x/y position makes sense only in a 2D compositor, which is limiting for a core protocol such as wl_output). In other words, it should not be wl_output, but now that it is, it cannot be removed from wl_output. Yet, starting with a new protocol aimed at desktop concepts (xdg_output), it belongs there more than wl_output.
