Okay, found it. It's a problem in Gentoo's patches on the xorg-server 1.4
unstable tree. Reverting to xorg-server 1.3 fixes the problem, and I've
notified bugs.gentoo.org .
Video works! It freezes the system occasionally, but that's understandable
since it's still unstable and using MMIO. Thanks for the hard work.
