Hello, I have a laptop with a 1400x1050 screen, and would like to be able to use it at half of the resolution, i.e. 700x525, because that would look better than e.g. 640x480 and 800x600, since it is eactly half of the physical resolution of the screen. It is an IBM T42 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 card. I have added 700x525 to the Modes-line in the Display subsection of the Screen section in xorg.conf:
*********************** Section "Screen" . SubSection "Display" . Modes "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1024x768" "800x600" "700x525" "640x480" ************************** In /var/log/Xorg.0.log it says: ******************************************************* (II) RADEON(0): Added native panel mode: 1400x1050 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 1280x1024 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 1280x960 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 1024x768 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 800x600 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 700x525 (II) RADEON(0): Adding Screen mode: 640x480 (II) RADEON(0): Total number of valid Screen mode(s) added: 6 ***************************************************************** The output from xrandr is: ************************************************************************** Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1400 x 1050, maximum 1400 x 1200 VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS connected 1400x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1400x1050 60.2*+ 1280x1024 59.9 1280x960 59.9 1280x800 60.0 1280x768 60.0 1024x768 60.0 59.9 800x600 60.3 59.9 700x525 59.8 640x480 59.9 59.4 S-video disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ****************************************************************** However, "xrandr -s 700x525" results in: ************* Size 700x525 not found in available modes ************* How come xrandr is saying that it is not an "available mode", when it is on the list? Is it impossible to get a 700x525 resolution?
