story so far,
happens with DRI off and no accel.
happens on VGA monitor plugged into laptop as well on LVDS screen.
I've added some of the more obvious plls to radeontool but nothing showing up
yet.
interesting is that vt switch won't help and ls on the VT stabilises it for a
bit.
