Today I updated the xorg-x11-drv-ati package to the one in Fedora Updates
Testing repository and the problem went away.
Version of the new package, which works is:
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.8.0-19.fc9.i386
If anyone wants to persue the difference between the old and new driver
version, which fixed this bug, I'll be glad to help. Else, this bug is fixed
for me.
