The maximum virtual screen can be configured in the Display SubSections of a
Screen Section in xorg.conf like this :
Section "Screen"

Monitor "Monitor1"
DefaultDepth "24"

SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Virtual 1600 1600 <-- here you can change the value to fit to your
needs
