Alex,

I currently cannot reproduce the problem :-(( , well it is also :-)) .

I am now with Xorg.conf without any of your proposed amendments, AGP 8x in BIOS 
as well as AGP FastWrite enabled. On top, compositor is enabled as well. 
Graphic speed seems quite ok for such old and lean system.

However, when ever a problem comes up I will try to apply your proposed changes.

Do you know any stress test to crash Xorg in case there is something wrong or 
broken? Just to force the error?
