Sounds similar to 14373 (fixed with commit ae986d1c73d), and could have a similar cause. Especially comment 18 hints at that https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/283128/comments/18 Do you have the above commit in your tree? Is there a difference between the output of "xkbcomp -xkb :0 -" before and after it occurs?
