You can run binaries compiled 15 years ago for Linux and they
work and run just fine on today's kernels.

Yet my emacs fonts are fux0red, my input device specifications in my
xorg.conf file are completely ignored, and MetaSendsEscape no longer
works with my xterms, with the current X server.
