With NVIDIA's (closed source) VDPAU, Intel will need more than XvMC to atract the attention of HTPC people. The MythTV crowd, for one, is red hot about VDPAU, has code in to support it, and initial reports are all mostly very positive, especially considering the alpha stage of it all. People have been decoding high rate HD on Atom boards using a GPU on a simple PCI bus. > > But why can't we just use IEGD. Can it just be built and run under X > like any driver? It certainly seems to be able to do everything ( > including h.264/vc-1) I need. Now, that would be nice. A few weeks ago I would have put my money on Intel for a free implementation of HD codecs decoding on Intel chips. I am sad I was wrong, but the opportunity is not gone yet, NVIDIA is closed source. I have also read that ATI/AMD is hot on their heels. Nico _______________________________________________ xorg mailing list [email protected] http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg
