Sorry, but stupid programmers not doing correct validation of return
values is NO ARGUMENT. It is just ridicilous. But naturally, it is
easier to scream "But you have to install XXX" than to at least fail
properly. This is not something specific to core fonts. Look at how many
"modern" applications just segfault at startup if dbus is not fully
initialised.
