Cheers Alan that fixed the problem. Make World completed successfully after a couple of other small issues, but now when I try to make install it fails running mkfontscale with a segmentation fault. Any ideas?

I've not tried building on Solaris 8 in many years (since before X11R6.9 was out), but you should be able to work around this by editing xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/common/xf86Events.c and just deleting the closefrom() call. If you do crash and call pstack to print the stack trace to the log, you'll pass all of Xorg's open file descriptors to pstack, but that probably won't hurt it. -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersm...@sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering Important Notice The information in this email is confidential and may be legally privileged.
